WINTER MOODS OF VENICE

There are cities and then,...there is Veni­ce. Join the award-winning photo­grapher Rafael Rojas and his partner Anca Minican on this exclusive Photo-Immersion trip to one of the most magical, photogenic and surrea­listic cities in the world: Venice.

This photo immersion trip will take place during one of the periods we love the most for photographing Ve­nice, winter, when the number of visitors is at its lowest and the mists are more likely to arrive, filling the maze of canals, streets and squares with an extra veil of mystery and minimalism under the faint light of the lamps.

We will photograph all the iconic places of the floating city, but also many other locations off the beaten track where we will photograph the authentic essence of Venice. We will also photograph during the night, as there is nothing like the mystery of an empty Venice under the light of the moon in a silence broken only by the sound of the water lapping in the canals and the buzz of the lamps in the mist. 

We will be based at a cosy central hotel for four days from where we will have easy access to all the areas we will photograph.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS TRIP

Discover with us and photograph not only the most iconic places of Ve­nice, but also those hidden streets, canals and squares which are seldom visited and where the authentic essence of the floating city can be found. 

In January, crowds dwindle and the winter mists tend to fill the maze of canals, squares and streets, reducing clutter to a minimum and allowing us to photograph the most mysterious, intimate and graphical character of this magical place. 

Several night photographic sessions, when we will have the whole of Venice to ourselves and will photograph the maze of alleys, squares and canals under the faint light of the lamps.

RAFAEL ROJAS

Rafael Rojas (Master Hasselblad 2014, MA Photography, ARPS) is a Swiss-Spanish fine art photographer, author and lecturer whose work frequently focuses on concepts like time, decay and renewal, the raw latent energy found in the landscape and the ephemeral qualities of existence. He strives to encapsulate concept, emotion and spirituality in his work.    

Rafael has been involved in teaching since he was in his teens, and well before he took a camera for the first time. First helping out young students, then teaching undergrads and later on as a University lecturer. Nowadays, as a full time professional photographer, lecturer, author and creativity mentor, he deeply enjoys helping other photographers grow as artists, slow down and look at the world with different eyes.

He is the founder of the online Photo School "Photography with Intent", a unique, comprehensive and structured one year course devoted to the whole photographic process from message to print.

Rafael is also co-owner and co-director of “Platinum Press Editions”, an independent finer art photography publishing company devoted to the creation of photography books of the highest quality.

Rafael speaks English, French, Spanish, Romanian and Italian.

ANCA MINICAN

Anca Minican, the partner of Rafael Rojas, provides a very special touch to all our photographic workshops and trips.  Trained as an architect, she is a true lover of nature and the wilderness and always accompanies Rafael on his photographic expeditions all over the planet. 

Her broad experience in the corporate world, her professionalism and her methodical and serious approach make her a valuable asset for the organization, on-site logistics and the support to customers during our workshops and photographic trips. She also plays a key role in the team building and knows how to create an amicable environment with a personal touch as all our clients can testify! 

Anca is co-owner and co-founder of “Platinum Press Editions”, an exclusive editorial house specialized in the creation of unique fine art photography books of the highest quality. She is also part of the management staff of the Photo School “Photography with Intent”.

She speaks English, Spanish, French, Italian and Romanian.

Single Occupancy accommodation in an ideally placed hotel. In order to allow the flexibility of budget and choice to our participants, we do not include meals other than breakfasts. Lunch and dinner times will be accommodated in a flexible way so that we can make the most of our day, photographically speaking.
